Focus during National Nutrition Month is often on healthy meal preparation. Dietitians at the Center for Community Health & Prevention have shared favorite recipes and tips for healthful eating. As the month comes to a close, it is also an opportunity to consider the outcomes of less nutrient-dense meals, including higher cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Data from the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey show that many census tracts in our region have relatively lower rates of high cholesterol, and that many of the higher rates are in rural, rather than urban tracts.
Also this month, March 28 is National Triglycerides Day highlighting another important factor in managing heart disease risk.
