January is National Blood Donor Month

Since 1970, the American Red Cross has encouraged blood donations during January because winter is traditionally a difficult time to collect sufficient blood to meet patients’ needs. Inclement weather can cancel blood drives and seasonal illnesses, such as flu, can force donors to forgo their blood donations.

Our area will have many blood donor drives during January, including several opportunities within UR Medicines’s Strong Memorial Hospital. However, most of these drives are not associated with a hospital or medical facility. Visit the RocHealthData map room to see the locations, dates, and times of the many upcoming blood drives across our region.
