Recently released data show wide variability in heart disease mortality among counties throughout New York State. These data, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Vital Statistics System, includes information from death certifications for US residents and includes numbers and death rates by county.

For example, Orleans County has an unadjusted rate of 173 per 100,000, while Monroe County has an unadjusted rate of 105 per 100,000. Explore these data more fully in the RocHealthData Map Room.
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute offers information about prevention of heart disease, including stress reduction and healthy lifestyle management. The Center for Community Health & Prevention at the University of Rochester Medical Center offers a variety of services including certified personal training, smoking cessation and nutrition counseling that can help reduce heart disease risk.
